Children's Activity on Oneontans and the Gold Rush
The Greater Oneonta Historical Society's Children’s Programming Committee will present a free event on Saturday September 21 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon at the Oneonta History Center, 183 Main Street. Recommended for children ages 8 to 12, the activity will provide interactive experiences relating to the History Center's current exhibition, “The Oneonta ’49ers", about the six local men who left for California and the Gold Rush in 1849.
The activities will include learning about the lifestyle and hardships of these daring men through multimedia, an exhibition hunt, and a hands-on clay workshop. The workshop will be led by Jacqui Hauser, the owner of the Studio for Art and Craft. In it, children will learn about, decorate, and take home a clay vessel similar to a type used by the ’49ers.
Refreshments will be provided. As space is limited, reservations are required. Reserve space(s) by contacting (607) 432-0960 or info@OneontaHistory.org or by visiting the History Center.
