The Night They Lit Up Wrigley at The Church

In February 1987, Connie I. Lane, a young theater professional from St. Louis and member of Redbird Nation since an early age, had the opportunity to interview Rita Meyer Moellering for research on her playing days in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL). Moellering played shortstop and pitcher for the Peoria Redwings 1946-1949 where she earned the nickname “Slats” because her slick defense and hard-throwing arm reminded people of the St. Louis Cardinals’ shortstop, Marty “Slats” Marion. Based on her research, Lane wrote a one-woman drama based on facts.

Thursday, July 18, Friday, July 19 & Saturday, July 20, 2019, 8pm-Theater

Jefferson Hamer, Kristin Andreassen & Lauren Balthrop

With an obvious nod to the faded glory of the internet acronym, half a decade since those cryptic strings of capital letters were rendered obsolete by animated emoticons and glitter drenched image loops that vanish as inexplicably as they arrive, JKLOL (the harmony singing trio of Jefferson Hamer, Kristin Andreassen, and Lauren Balthrop) mean business about not taking this whole business too seriously. They’ve already earned gold-status in the folk star frequent flyer program, with Kristin fronting legendary old-time group Uncle Earl and having her own songs all over cable television, Lauren releasing an acclaimed album of original songs with Bob Weir’s own producer Josh Kaufman, and Jefferson winning a BBC award for his duo with Anais Mitchell. This new collaboration, nobody’s first rodeo, is built on mutual respect and a desire to bring something fun to the stage, perhaps to express a bit less confessional earnestness, and more pure joy.

“The Oneonta 49ers”

In 1849 storekeeper Collis Huntington left Oneonta to open a branch store and find his fortune in California. He was accompanied by five other local men - Leroy Chamberlain, Daniel Hammond, George Murray, Egbert Sabin, & Carleton Watkins. This exhibition tells the story of “The Oneonta 49ers”. It will include life in the newly incorporated village of Oneonta, the group’s trip to California, their intertwined lives, and their legacies. It promises to be a fascinating look at how the Gold Rush changed lives in a village in Upstate New York and the great influence at least some of these new Californians from Oneonta had.

The reception for the exhibition will include refreshments and is free and open to the public.

The Intenders of the Highest Good, facilitated by Kimberly Winsor, is a free community circle that shows you how to set your intention to have that which you desire come to you as easily and effortlessly as possible. A simple method of empowerment is used called The Intention Process which makes all of our dreams come true. We understand that our desires are in us to be fulfilled and that our thoughts create our world. We support and help one another to become as clear as possible in our words and our thoughts so that we can live our lives to the fullest.

The Intention Process is for those who want to use the Laws of Manifestation in their daily lives, line up with the Highest Good and have a lot of fun while they're at it!

Thryn Saxon at The Church

  • The Church presented by Upstate Production Services Inc. (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

This piece is an evolution of a duet, BAB/E, that Thryn began in June of 2018. BAB/E was inspired by ideas of physical impact (body against body, body against itself, body against the floor) relationships, disruption of the feminine ideal, mosh pits, and punk rock music. An exploration of exposed nerves, consumption of sensation, “mud and glass,” it is in part a response to her experience of having certain extremes of physicality withheld by the nature of being a woman causing her to instead research and run after them. In this new iteration, women have space to experience those risks and sensations and indulge in their pure physicality while exploring the subtleties and nuances of the female.
